Takeaways – Life. Lessons. Learned.

Michael Naft

Michael Naft is a Clark County Commissioner for District A, overseeing some of Southern Nevada’s most complex and high-profile areas, including parts of the Las Vegas Strip, unincorporated communities, and regional infrastructure. Appointed in 2019 and later elected, he has become a key civic leader—helping guide landmark moments like Las Vegas hosting its first Super Bowl while modernizing how local government serves a rapidly growing region.

From Vegas Kid to Public-Servant

Mr. Naft moved to Las Vegas in first grade and came up through Las Vegas Academy, where he developed a love for storytelling, community, and civic diversity. After earning a political science degree at UNLV, a single decision—attending a college political mixer—changed everything. That night launched both his career in public service and a lifelong partnership, setting the trajectory for his future leadership.

Learning Government from the Inside Out

Michael has spent more than a decade working for Congresswoman Dina Titus, rising from entry-level campaign work to District Director. In that role, he ran congressional district operations and helped residents navigate federal agencies, from veterans’ benefits to Social Security. The experience gave him a rare, ground-level understanding of how government actually impacts people—and how to make it work better.

Building a Safer, Smarter County

As County Commissioner, Naft approaches government like an operator—focused on outcomes, efficiency, and long-term value. His work spans traffic safety, infrastructure design, animal welfare, policing oversight, and regional boards that manage billions in public funds. Known for championing practical improvements like safer street design, he views every day in office as a limited opportunity to move Clark County forward.
