Takeaways – Life. Lessons. Learned.

Kevin Burke

Kevin Burke is the CEO of Burke Construction and a Partner at Matter Real Estate Group. He’s a champion of higher education and a dedicated volunteer with decades of experience in leadership. Kevin was born in Kansas and graduated from Kansas State University with a mechanical engineering degree. From early hands-on experiences in nuclear power projects to working for Procter & Gamble, his career showcases a dynamic blend of engineering and leadership in high-stakes environments.

Today, he navigates two high-profile companies while maintaining a strong sense of community, particularly through his extensive volunteer work.

Be willing to keep going, even when it hurts

Kevin knows that celebration and stress relief are just as important as discipline and resolve. He talks about his dedication to waking up for a full workout regimen at 4:30 AM 6 days a week. Kevin doesn’t miss his workouts. As an experienced triathlete, a dedicated husband and Dad, Kevin understands we all have the same 24 hours in the day. He explains that “it’s not what you’re capable of; it’s what you’re willing to do”.

This self-discipline extends to his work life. With purpose and the right people, he believes you can accomplish a lot. But it takes effort- if you don’t put in the effort, it won’t work. Clients, partners, and your team should see the effort you put in.

Go forward and give back

Kevin’s career volunteer work has included the Kansas State University Board of Trustees and the College of Engineering Advisory Council, a four-time appointee by the Nevada governor as chairman of the Nevada Contractors Board, Perch Furniture Board of Directors, executive board member of the Las Vegas Metro Chamber of Commerce, and UNLV Foundation Board of Trustees, among others. Kevin notes that it’s important to give back to the industry that builds you up.
