Tom Thomas
Tom Thomas is the Managing Partner of Thomas & Mack Co., an investment and commercial real estate development company. In addition, he serves as an Area Seventy of the LDS Church where he oversees the resources of the Church in the greater Clark County area and into Arizona.
Building on a Family Legacy
Tom’s journey is deeply intertwined with the growth of Las Vegas itself. Raised in a family that played a crucial role in shaping the city’s business and philanthropic landscape, he followed in the footsteps of his father, Perry Thomas, a banking pioneer who helped transform the gaming industry into a legitimate, regulated enterprise.
With a finance degree and a law degree from the University of Utah, Tom started his career on the legal side of banking before shifting into wealth management and commercial real estate development. After Valley Bank of Nevada merged with Bank of America in 1991, Tom co-founded the Thomas & Mack Company, formalizing what was a handshake partnership between his family and the Mack family. From then on, he focused on real estate development, overseeing transformative projects such as McCarran Center and Beltway Business Park.
One of his most notable business ventures was his partnership with Rob Roy, the visionary behind Switch. What started as a small data center operation turned into a multi-billion-dollar technology powerhouse, demonstrating Tom’s ability to identify and support game-changing opportunities.
A Life of Service and Giving Back
Beyond business, Tom has dedicated much of his life to service. As an Area 70 for the LDS Church, he plays a crucial role in humanitarian efforts, government relations, and interfaith partnerships, ensuring resources reach those in need. His leadership in organizations like Opportunity Village, UNLV Foundation, and the Las Vegas Rotary Club exemplifies his belief that success comes with the responsibility to give back.
His work with the Giving Machine initiative—an innovative reverse vending machine that allows people to donate food, clothing, and essential items to local and global charities—has helped generate hundreds of thousands of dollars for various causes. He has also led efforts to bridge philanthropy and government by coordinating initiatives such as replacing hundreds of bunk beds at the Las Vegas Rescue Mission through public-private partnerships.
